Demet Oksuz is the founder of Blissful Mind Psychology. Demet is a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is an Associate Member of the Australian Psychologist Society (APS). She completed a Bachelor of Behavioural Science, a Post Graduate Diploma of Psychology and a Graduate Diploma of Business. She has been working as a psychologist for over 12 years.
Demet has a warm, friendly, and caring nature with a natural desire, passion and tendency to help others. She is passionate about working in a helping role and obtains much satisfaction and fulfilment in reaching out to those in need. She strives to make a difference to the lives of people who are struggling with various life problems or mental health issues through assisting clients to find alternative, more helpful and constructive ways to deal with their problems.
Demet has undertaken work in both the public and private sector. She has worked in a variety of settings including working in detention health, community service, rehabilitation of workers, in a primary school setting and private practice with a range of client groups including children, adolescents, adults (both individuals and couples) and aged individuals. She has extensive experience working with people who are suffering from depression, personality disorders, anxiety, self esteem issues, stress, substance abuse, psychotic disorders, relationship difficulties, anger management, sex offenders and grief and loss/bereavement. She has worked intensively with treating people recovering from severe trauma (PSTD) including asylum seekers, road trauma survivors, sexual and physical abuse as well as various other types of trauma. She has provided assistance to people with mental health barriers to employment and the rehabilitation of injured workers with mental health problems. She has also worked with people who have been detained in an immigration detention facility post release from prison upon completion of their sentence period.
Demet’s experience in the field of psychology has helped her to develop a comprehensive understanding of a wide range of psychological problems, the socioeconomic status and particular needs of various cultural groups, backgrounds and age groups.
Demet uses a client centred and integrative approach to therapy incorporating a range of evidence based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Person- Centred Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Therapy.
